Opting for an electric vehicle can result in lower Benefit in Kind (BIK)

Regarding the Benefit in Kind (BIK) charging regime for company-provided vehicles, the temporary reduction of €10,000 in the original market value (OMV) of vehicles, including vans, in categories A-D will be extended until December 31, 2024. Additionally, the lower limit in the highest mileage band will remain at 48,000 kilometers.

If an employee is provided with an electric vehicle in 2024 with an Original Market Value (OMV) of €50,000, the cash equivalent of the vehicle will be €5,000 (€50,000 - €45,000). Assuming the employee travels 35,000 business kilometers annually, the Benefit in Kind (BIK) rate under band A for this level of business mileage will be 18%. Therefore, the employee will be subject to a total BIK notional pay of €900 (€5,000 x 18%) for the year.

Tesla Model 3 image

Tesla Model 3

The Model 3 stands out for its exceptional driving experience, boasting superior handling. It offers impressive speed, especially in Performance trim, while still maintaining surprising practicality.

Although its near-total lack of physical buttons and switches, including the replacement of the indicator stalk with haptic buttons on the steering wheel, may not appeal to everyone, the large 15.4-inch central screen is relatively user-friendly.

When considering its competitive pricing and the added benefit of access to the brand's extensive and convenient Supercharger network, recommending the Model 3 becomes straightforward

Vollkwagen ID 4 image

Vollkwagen ID 4

The ID.4 is an electric SUV with five doors and seating for five passengers. It boasts an electric range of between 340 and 500 kilometers, depending on the version you choose.

Measuring nearly 4.6 meters in length, the ID.4 is a sizable car, offering considerably more interior space than both the Volkswagen ID.3 and Tiguan Allspace. This makes it an excellent choice for family buyers seeking ample room and comfort.

You have the option to select from two different battery sizes for the ID.4. The first is a 52 kWh battery, providing approximately 340 kilometers of range. Alternatively, you can opt for the larger 77 kWh battery, which offers around 506 kilometers of range when fully charged.

Lease the Polestar 2 image

Lease the Polestar 2

The Polestar 2 commands attention on the road with its sculpted bodywork and sporty silhouette. While the Polestar logo and brand may currently be unfamiliar to motorists in Ireland, this is expected to change in the coming months as the brand fully launches in the market and the Polestar 2 becomes more common on Irish roads. Other notable features include standard frameless door mirrors, a sleek black grille, and vibrant LED lights at the front and rear.

The Standard range single motor version, equipped with a 67 kWh battery, boasts a claimed range of up to 478 kilometers and accelerates from 0-100km/h in 7.2 seconds, providing ample performance for daily driving needs. In contrast, the Long Range Dual Motor version, featuring a larger 75 kWh battery, accelerates from 0-100km/h in a mere 4.7 seconds, offering a different level of performance.

The Polestar 2 can accommodate up to 150 kW from a public DC rapid charger, enabling the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in roughly 35 minutes. When using a more common 50 kW public fast charger, it takes approximately 65 minutes to charge the battery from 10% to 80% capacity.

BYD Seal image

BYD Seal

The Seal features a sleek design aimed at enhancing its efficiency, complemented by 19-inch alloy wheels as a standard feature. Its distinctive wave-inspired LED daytime running lights create a pattern in the lower corners of the front bumper, providing easy recognition. Additionally, the Seal boasts a low bonnet that opens to reveal a 53-liter storage area, perfect for storing charging cables.

The Seal model lineup offers two versions, both equipped with an 82.5 kWh battery capable of utilizing an 11 kW AC charger and rapid DC charging at up to 150 kW. Recharging from 10% to 80% theoretically takes 37 minutes.

The Seal Design features a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive configuration, delivering a maximum output of 312 hp and boasting a WLTP driving range of 570 kilometers. Acceleration is brisk, with the 0-100km/h sprint accomplished in just 5.9 seconds. Given its impressive range and relatively lower price, this version is likely to be the more popular choice.

On the other hand, the dual-motor Seal Excellence offers slightly reduced range at 520 kilometers, but compensates with enhanced performance, delivering outputs of 530 hp and 670 Nm. This results in a rapid acceleration from 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds.
